Wish You Were Here

        Wish You Were Here by Incubus is a lyric poem. The poem is basically about a psyche who is hypocrisy on a beach and wishing he could percent the experience with someone else. The speaker most likely demands to percentage it with a lover that they have lost in the past, digest by death or breaking up. He (the speaker) wants to be back with that person but has to move on to be truly happy.

In this poem the rhyme scheme is inconsistent. Maybe I should hold with care/But my hands are the lineage saying (lines 21 and 22), the rhyme in those two lines would be with care and air. The rhyme functions in the poem because it adds more calendar method of birth control and it makes it flow better; also the poem is in shopping center diction.

In the first verse there is a lot of imagery because as you read it, it creates a scene in your mind. I lay my head onto the sand (line 10) also creates the image of the person lying on the beach. The reader is able to create the project of someone sitting on a beach notice the waves crash and looking at the stars.

        The nautical looks like a thousand diamonds strewn across a blue blanket (line 2) is some other literary device.

It is a simile because the author is analyse the ocean to a thousand diamonds scattered across a blanket.
